EYFS Parents Guide.

EYFS Expectations for ParentsThe Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is a framework that sets the standards for the learning, development, and care of children from birth to age 5. As a parent or caregiver, you play an essential role in supporting your child's learning and development. Here are the key expectations for parents under EYFS:
1. Supporting Development at Home
  • Learning through Play: Encourage play-based learning that promotes creativity, problem-solving, and social skills.
  • Language and Communication: Engage in conversations, read stories, and encourage your child to express themselves verbally.
  • Physical Development: Provide opportunities for physical activity and support fine and gross motor skills development.
3. Understanding the 7 Areas of LearningEYFS focuses on 7 key areas of learning and development:
  • Prime Areas: Communication and Language, Physical Development, Personal, Social, and Emotional Development.
  • Specific Areas: Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World, Expressive Arts and Design. As a parent, you should engage your child in activities that foster development across these areas.
4. Encouraging Independence and Confidence
  • Encourage self-help skills, such as dressing, feeding, and tidying up.
  • Provide opportunities for your child to make choices and take on small responsibilities.
5. Promoting Positive Behavior
  • Use praise and encouragement to reinforce positive behavior.
  • Establish clear boundaries and routines that help your child understand expectations.
6. Health and Well-being
  • Promote good hygiene habits, including regular handwashing and healthy eating.
  • Encourage outdoor play and physical exercise.
7. Monitoring Development
  • Observe and support your child’s progress in line with the EYFS developmental milestones.
  • Be aware of any concerns and work together with providers to address them promptly.
8. Engagement in Cultural and Social Learning
  • Encourage experiences that broaden your child’s understanding of the world, including visits to new places or meeting people from different cultures.
By staying actively involved in your child’s early learning, you are helping to create a positive foundation for their future education and well-being.

At Brightwalton Preschool Nursery you will be kept up to date on your child's progress through regular reporting, assessments, observations and through parent consultations.
