A nurturing start for curious minds
Nestled in the heart of the countryside, Brightwalton Prechool Nursery offers a beautiful, rural setting where young children can thrive. Surrounded by open fields and enchanting woodland, our preschool provides the perfect environment for early learning, exploration, and play.
We believe that the early years are a unique and vital stage in a child’s development. At Brightwalton, we combine a nurturing atmosphere with meaningful challenge, supporting each child as they grow in confidence, independence, Our experienced team is passionate about creating a safe, inspiring space where children feel valued, supported, and excited to learn.
Learning Through Play and Nature  Our spacious outdoor areas – including a playing field and wooded exploration area – allow children to enjoy the freedom of nature every day. We place a strong emphasis on physical activity, with plenty of opportunities for climbing, balancing, digging, and building. These activities not only support health and wellbeing but also help develop the upper body strength and fine motor control essential for early mark making and writing skills.
Building Strong Foundations  Children at Brightwalton learn through a rich mix of structured and free flowing activities designed to foster creativity, communication, and problem solving. Whether they're working together to solve a puzzle, creating imaginative artwork, or participating in a drama session, children are encouraged to think critically, express themselves, and collaborate with peers. We celebrate kindness, good manners, and empathy, with older children naturally taking on gentle leadership roles and helping younger ones navigate their day.
A Vibrant Daily Routine  Each day is thoughtfully planned to provide a balance of stimulating experiences and calm, reflective moments. Daily activities includes:
  • Daily sensory circuits to support regulation, coordination, and readiness to learn
  • Weekly PE sessions that build physical confidence and teamwork
  • Frequent singing, music, and drama activities to develop language and emotional expression
  • Creative arts to nurture imagination and fine motor skills
A True Partnership With Parents  We know that parents are a child’s first and most important educators, and we pride ourselves on building strong, open relationships with every family. We offer regular feedback and engage in ongoing dialogue about each child’s progress, interests, and needs. Through our secure online observation and learning journal, parents can see what their child has been doing each day, sharing in the magic of those small, but powerful, moments of discovery and growth.
At Brightwalton, your child will be encouraged, challenged, and cherished. We are committed to laying the foundations for a lifelong love of learning, all in a setting that feels like a second home.
We would love to welcome you for a visit — come and see the difference a rural, nurturing start can make.

Our New Topic:    Mini Beasts: A World of Wonder and DiscoveryThis term, our learning journey is inspired by the fascinating world of mini beasts. Through stories, exploration, and hands-on experiences, the children will develop a deep appreciation for the tiny creatures that share our environment.
We will begin by immersing ourselves in a range of much-loved stories, including The Hungry Caterpillar, Beetle in the Bathroom, Spinderella, and Superworm. These engaging tales will spark curiosity, encourage discussion, and help children build early literacy skills while learning about lifecycles, habitats, and the importance of even the smallest creatures.
Our outdoor learning will play a central role in this topic. Visits to Dunmore Woodland will provide rich opportunities to explore natural habitats, observe mini beasts in their environment, and develop a sense of wonder about the world around us. The children will take pride in caring for the wild garden we have planted, learning how to nurture plants and create safe spaces for insects and wildlife.
We will also be checking the nesting boxes and butterfly boxes we have installed, observing who might have made a home there and discussing how we can support local wildlife. By “putting on our listening ears,” the children will tune into the sounds of nature, rustling leaves, birdsong, and buzzing insects, helping them to develop mindfulness and awareness of their surroundings.
Through these experiences, children will learn the importance of treating nature with care and respect, understanding that even the smallest creatures play a vital role in our ecosystem.
Back in our garden, we will grow our own herbs, giving children the chance to care for living plants and observe changes over time. We will also explore seasonal opportunities, such as making elderflower cordial from elderflowers found on the field, connecting learning to real-life experiences and traditional practices.
Each day will begin with sensory circuits to support physical development, coordination, and readiness for learning. Weekly PE sessions will focus on racket and ball skills, alongside upper body strengthening activities, helping to build the foundations needed for early writing.
Our term will also include a fun and energetic sports day, held on the field behind the nursery, where children will develop teamwork, confidence, and a love for physical activity in a supportive and celebratory environment.
For our older children, we will introduce early financial awareness through activities focused on money. They will create their own piggy banks and take on simple, age-appropriate jobs at home to earn money. This learning will lead up to our special leavers market, where children will make and sell their own items.
All proceeds from the market will be donated to Oxfam to support the education of children in Africa. Through this meaningful project, children will begin to understand the importance of helping others, developing empathy, and recognising how their actions can make a positive difference in the world.
This topic provides a rich blend of literacy, outdoor learning, physical development, and personal growth. Most importantly, it encourages children to become curious, caring, and responsible individuals who respect both nature and each other.
